Career as an Air Traffic Controller

Air Traffic Control is one of the most interesting professions in the world. Air traffic controllers are the eyes and ears of the pilots. Being the navigators of the sky, they need to be vigilant all the time when they are performing their duties. The basic idea behind the Air Traffic Controlling is to achieve the goal of “safe, orderly and expeditious flow” of air traffic. The people who perform this highly skilled task are known as Air Traffic Controllers.

Air Traffic Controller is the person responsible to manage the flow of Air machines in the sky, be it Fighter, Commercial, Airbus or any other planes. With the globalization of the world and increasing use of the airways the responsibility of ATC's has increased a lot. This job is also considered as adventurous as they may get a chance flying one of the planes themselves. This profession not only provides thrill but also provides an opportunity to face challenges on daily basis. To discharge his duties efficiently and effectively he requires special training and knowledge in more than one area like air navigation, interpretation of meteorological reports, operations of sophisticated electronic and mechanical controls, leading the aircraft under adverse circumstances.

Air traffic controllers generally work in teams. Each controller is assigned a fixed number of planes as soon as they enter the airspace of the airport they work at. They are responsible for communicating with that plane until it lands or leaves the airspace. They do this by talking to pilots of various commercial and personal aircraft through a two-way radio system.
